While certain stains will respond better to specific cleaners, there are some universal truths when it comes to handling these issues. For instance, it's never a good idea to scrub a carpet. Blot it instead, working from the outside of the stain toward the center.
Alcoholic Beverages and Sodas
Your flooring is put at risk by the drinks your guests enjoy. Protect flooring by concocting a solution that contains 32 ounces of water and one-quarter teaspoon of white vinegar. This will clean your flooring, including carpet, without causing any damage.
Chocolate and Coffee
Desserts can be murder on your flooring. If your carpet is not wool or wool blend, then you can use a solution of one cup of water and one tablespoon of ammonia to remove these stains. Wool and wool-blend carpets can be rid of these stains with water and mild detergent.
Candles are a beautiful addition to your holiday decor, but if any wax melts into your carpet, then you're in for trouble. Place a dry paper towel over the wax stains, then set your clothes iron to the "warm" setting. Move the iron over the paper towel, and the wax should melt onto the paper towel.
Holiday crafts are fun for the whole family, but they can damage your flooring. Glue can be especially bad for the carpet. Soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol. Press the wet cotton ball onto the stain, then wipe it gently away with a clean cloth.
